This tour gives access to a collection of houses reflecting the evolution of Charleston's superb architecture from some of the oldest to those of the 20th century and creating a delightful historic streetscape. Adapted for a 21st-century lifestyle, these houses show how Southerners have lived for centuries. Built during prosperous colonial days through and beyond the antebellum period, the properties on this tour attest to a time when successful maritime merchants had shops and offices on the first floor and private residences above. This tour includes the interiors of private houses.
