The trading town of Dorchester was located on the Ashley River. From 1697 until the beginning of the Revolutionary War the trading town flourished. Dorchester was abandoned at the beginning of the Revolutionary War and disappeared leaving only a few original structures which remain today. Visitors can see the remains of the brick bell tower of St. George's Anglican Church. You can also get a glimpse of a log wharf during low tide and view the fort which was made of an oyster-shell concrete called tabby.

Visitors can also watch as archaeologists unearth the settlement's history.
