American Military Museum

The American Military Museum is filled with hundreds of authentic uniforms and artifacts. On display are fully authentic uniforms, equipment, artifacts and weapons from military conflicts dating from the Revolutionary War through to the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There are also display cases filled with uniforms, headgear, military equipment, flags, medals and hundreds of military artifacts from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.

At Cypress Gardens you can take a swamp boat ride or visit the Butterfly House. There is also the Swamparium which has large tanks and terrariums which feature fish, amphibians, and reptiles native to the swamp and waterways. There are also animals from swamps from around the world such as the South American anaconda and the African crocodile.

At the Butterfly House you can enjoy the many flowering plants, live butterflies, birds and a observation beehive.

Magnolia Cemetery

Magnolia Cemetery was established in 1850 and covered 92 acres. It is the oldest public cemetery in Charleston. Many prominent South Carolinians are buried at Magnolia Cemetery. Magnolia is beautifully landscaped with winding drives and paths interspersed with small ponds and a lake. Many Charlestonians would come to Magnolia to picnic and play, as well as visit lost loved ones.

McLeod Plantation - James Island

McLeod Plantation was established in 1851 on 37 acres of land. The construction of the manor house begin in 1858 by William McLeod. The manor house remains on the property today with an oak-line drive to the manor. The manor house was constructed in the Georgian style. Years later the front and rear of the house were reversed, and the front facade was altered. Also located on the property is six clapboard slave cabins, a detached kitchen, a dairy building, a pre-war gin house for long-staple cotton, a barn, and a carriage house.
